So Deadly Premonition Director’s Cut officially released in Europe! Yay! I know I’m jealous because I won’t get my hands on the game until Tuesday, April 30th here in the US.
However, instead of the plethora of tweets and posts of excitement I expected on DPDC EU release day there’s been an increasing amount of discussion about how glitchy, and depending on who you talk to, unplayable the game is 🙁
Fans are reporting major frame rate drops while playing the opening chapter and driving around Greenvale along with varying audio problems, translation errors and even York killing glitches.
I have to say these reports are not only disappointing but also surprising given that the build I saw back in both January and March of this year at the two DPDC San Francisco press events I attended displayed no such issues! Unfortunately, since the Director’s Cut won’t be released in the US until next week I’m not sure if the problems reported are strictly limited to the PAL release or will plague the NTSC release as well. As soon as I get my hands on my own copy I will let you guys know of any issues I experience!
Additionally, I had several fans tell me last night that the day one European digital release has also been delayed until May 1st! However, according to a message Ill Saint received from the Playstation Store it hints that this release may be delayed even longer then originally reported due to technical issues…

Could this be due to the day one bugs fans have been reporting? I have my fingers crossed that maybe a patch is already be in the works.

It’s the silent hill HD pact all over again!
I’m in the middle of playing this right now and I have noticed the audio and framerate glitches, however, once getting past those parts (and driving all over Greenvale), the framerate issues appeared to stop. It’s probably just a loading thing. The audio glitches I’ve seen only really seem to be concerned with York’s footsteps occasionally sounding like an angry dog, though.
Been playing this since its release in Blighty on Friday and have to admit that the lag / delay issues are true. Game occasionally freezes for a second or two during open play but hasn’t crashed yet. Subtitles also not keeping up with the audio and, like Pie, I’m getting the angry dog sfx turning up all over the place (does add a certain ‘Hound of he Baskervilles’ feel to proceedings tho 🙂 ).
Having said that, still having a blast being back in Greenvale. Determined to get more side quests and cards ticked off on this playthrough!
glad I didn’t preorder. Hopefully these issues get fixed
Haha, yeah, after playing some more I have to admit I was just being lucky; the framerate things came back after like an hour. /hangs head in shame
But it’s still tons of fun to play, nothing gamebreaking yet. Maffgeary’s got a good point, that it’s like the Hound of the Baskervilles. It gives some interesting effects to certain areas.
Hopefully there’ll be a patch coming soon. It’s still worth playing for the new right stick camera control feature and some interesting cut scene additions near the start (although not sure if I approve of them or not…). Right, off to get myself a radio 🙂
I’m looking forward to seeing this site update with all the new stuff!!!!! 😀 2 DAYS!!!!!!
There is a cutscene comparison on YouTube, go check it out
