Steam Trading Cards

Steam Trading Cards are virtual cards earned by playing games on Steam. Sets of cards can be turned into game badges and tradable Steam community items like profile backgrounds and emoticons.

Trading Cards

Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut released on Steam with trading card support on October 29, 2013.  There are 9 cards in the series to collect and players would receive 5 of these cards at random for purchasing and playing the game.

Foil Trading Cards

Steam Foil Trading cards are rarer versions of the normal trading cards and can be crafted into foil badges.

Booster Packs

Once you have gotten all of your card drops for a game you own, you have a chance of receiving a booster pack. Boosters contain 3 random cards from the set. The odds of receiving a booster pack increase based on your Steam level: +20% for every 10 levels. In addition, Valve has said that there is an ‘anti-bad luck’ measure in play: the longer you go without receiving a pack, the greater your odds of receiving one in future giveaways.

Booster packs are given out in batches. The timing of when packs are awarded is not known, but is based on the badges that are crafted. As cards are used up from players crafting badges, those cards are replenished by pack giveaways. Thus the total number of cards in the system will not decrease as badges are crafted.

Booster packs can also be purchased using Gems. A Deadly Premonition Booster pack costs 667 gems.

Badges

Once you’ve collected a set of cards you can craft them into a game badge that are tied to your account and shown on your profile. Crafting game badges earns you marketable items like emoticons, profile backgrounds, and coupons. You can level up your badge by collecting the full set again and earning more items.

Did you see that, Zach?

Rewards for Crafting Badges

During badge crafting you’ll receive random rewards from a set of game related items. They are tradable and can only be used while you possess them.  Crafting Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut Badges can earn you several different game themed Emoticons that can be used in Steam chat, discussions, and profiles. You can also earn several game themed wallpapers to decorate your Steam profile.
